Vision: Reviving our WHY and WAY

If we lose our WHY, we will lose our WAY.

Kirby Woods’ future vision is grounded in who God is and what God can do when we elevate our expectations of what we ask and think he will do.

Where Vision Starts-Believing in God’s Ability (3:20)

You will not see what God can do until you see who God is.

“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”-Hebrews 11:6

God “is able to do far more abundantly beyond all” we “ask” meaning we can never “ask” for anything beyond God’s ability to give (3:20).

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who  ask him!”-Jesus in Matthew 7:11

God is “able to do far more abundantly beyond all” we “think” meaning he can do more than you could ever imagine and envision (3:20).

In 2019, Kirby Woods Must…

1)  Ask God to Move in a New Way

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”-Albert Einstein

For Kirby Woods to be a dynamic disciple-making church, we must be open to new ways of doing worship, prayer, ministry, and outreach.

2)  Move from Dissatisfaction to Dreams

“Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves, when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little, when we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore.” -Francis Drake

“And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams…”-Acts 2:17

3)  Ask God for Greater Works

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name I will do it.”-Jesus in John 14:12-14

Dream big dreams because God will give us more than we could ever dream.

How Vision Works-Spirit-Empowered Lives (3:20)

God’s transformative power must first work “within” us through his Holy Spirit before he will do something through us (3:20).

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”-Jesus in Acts 1:8

God’s power working in our lives is not meant to be a past event but an ongoing present reality as it “works” within us (3:20).

“Be filled with the Holy Spirit…”-Ephesians 5:18

In 2019, Kirby Woods Must…

1) Hear and Live God’s Word

If unbelievers are to be attracted to Jesus through us, Kirby Woods must be a church where God’s power is seen and felt (Jms. 1:25).

You need a daily time alone in God’s Word where God’s Spirit charges you up to live a powerfully transformative life (2 Tim. 3:16-4:5; Heb. 4:12).

2) Corporately Pray for God’s Power

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”-Jesus in Luke 11:13

On January 7-11 at 6:30AM every morning, we will meet together to ask God to give Kirby Woods a fresh movement of God’s Spirit to work powerfully within us that we might lead a Gospel movement in Memphis.

3)  Empower Every Member to Do Ministry

“He gave...shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…”-Ephesians 4:11-12

The ministries of Kirby Woods will restructure and transition to member-driven ministry teams who do the ministry.

What Vision Does-Reveals God’s Glory (3:21)

God wants to reveal who he is-his glory-to an unbelieving world through the church (Rom. 2:10; 8:30; 1 Cor. 2:7; 2 Cor. 3:18).

The church who experiences God’s enabling power perseveres to make a future impact for eternity “throughout all generations” (3:21).

In 2019, Kirby Woods Must...

1)  Adopt New Methods

“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” -Ecclesiastes 1:9

While our message does not change, we must adopt new and innovative methods so Kirby Woods will continue through all generations.

2)  Invest for the Future

“And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings. One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much…” -Jesus in Luke 16:9-10

The I LOVE KIRBY initiative is a stewardship opportunity to be faithful stewards of what we have in the present that he may entrust us with more into the future.

3)  Become a Simple Church

God’s glory is revealed in the excellence of a simple process for discipleship.
